Founder Spotlight: Unveiling the Vision Behind The Blackletter Club
I have lived many lives
as a dancer, stylist, journalist, and visual merchandiser. Each role has offered me a unique perspective and deepened my appreciation for the richness of diverse cultures. Yet, despite this exposure, I felt a growing desire to go further — to explore the world not just through experience, but through the lens of how others tell their stories.
Literature became my portal.
It has been both cathartic and transformative — a medium through which I’ve found liberation, clarity, and connection. The words of many powerful authors opened my mind and stirred a sense of purpose within me — a purpose I chose to channel into The Blackletter.
The Blackletter
was born during the COVID-19 pandemic as a bilingual book club and a safe, open space hosted on Clubhouse for two years. Its mission is rooted in the celebration of the Black community in all its richness and diversity, and in shedding light on social justice and community-based literature.
Through fiction, biographies, and essays, TBL seeks to explore themes of racial equity and social awareness. It is a space designed to challenge, to engage, and to spark thoughtful dialogue — inviting readers to think critically and feel deeply.
We welcome all — from those beginning their journey in decolonizing their minds, to those committed to deepening their anti-racism practice by diversifying their bookshelves.
My goal is twofold
to elevate the cultural output of marginalized communities, and to foster a vibrant culture of literature within those very communities — creating room not only for reading, but for recognition, resilience, and renewal.
